They have an award for being a great SS, its called the golden gloves. Lindor will win that and shut up about the MVP because he is not getting near that this year.
DON, if stealing bases is “so easy now” how come out of 1,213 active mlb players ONLY 3 players have 40+ stolen bases? THREE !!!
The opportunity and rules of stealing bases applies to ALL 1,213 players and yet only THREE have 40+ SB.
How can you compare two people objectively if you are only watching ONE player???
Honestly, with your years in this show, you could have learned how to be more mature and objective in doing analysis. Unfortunately, you are predictable in your opinions— nothing surprising in, who you will favor and who you will be prejudiced to.
Real baseball fans — ARE baseball fans, not teams or players . We want baseball to grow and be recognized how great this sport really is! Monumental historical and amazing plays should be celebrated not pooh-poohed as if it is nothing.
Don, I will make a forecasting.
With retired mlb players now doing podcasts and analyzing baseball objectively, maturely and with personal experience, fans are tuning in more with these shows. With your style compared with retired players, who do you think becomes more relevant to baseball fans ? Have you checked your show’s views and subscribers, against mlb players’ podcasts? Your predictability and prejudice might limit your listeners and subscribers .. what say you, will happen ?
Of course this is coming from idiots in ny
Do you know that when Shohei Ohtani was a member of the Hokkaido Fighters, a Japanese professional baseball team, he was strictly forbidden by his manager and coach from stealing bases, which had a high probability of causing injury.
That is why he could not run in Japan even if he wanted to.
Therefore, his stolen base record in Japan was poor, and even when he was transferred to MLB, those who only looked at Shohei’s past records overlooked his ability to run.
Still, it is said that Shohei wanted to run for a stolen base every time he was banned.
Their decision to ban Shohei from stealing bases is understandable because the team would not want him, the mainstay of pitching & hitting, to get injured.
Why does Shohei always try to steal a base without worrying about the risk of injury?
It is because he believes it is the duty of a baserunner to advance to the next base for the team’s victory.
As Shohei often says, achieving his own record is a means to the team’s championship, and it happens in the process, not as a goal in itself.
Shohei’s seemingly unselfish lack of interest in achieving individual records can be attributed to his upbringing in Japanese high schools baseball, where the goal was to win championship in the Koshien Sudden Death Tournament.
He believes that if his team does not win the championship in the end, he has lost in the game of baseball.
Aaron Judge’s hitting seems to be a little sluggish lately perhaps due to the pressure of achieving the record.
However, Shohei’s lack of concern for personal records and unselfishness may be the driving force behind his ability to keep a calm mind and achieve new records easily and without hesitation, even in the face of a major accomplishment.
The only time that Shohei feels nervous and overwhelmed may be when he sees the possibility of winning the World Series just a step away.
In any case, we should not forget that it is a hard and rare challenge for a home run hitter and a pitcher to steal many bases, which is too risky to be considered in normal thinking.
Two simple questions, a year from now, will Lindor’s special 2024 season be remembered?
20 years from now, will Ohtani’s 2024 season be remembered?
Is this a joke?
Ohtani has 30 doubles…. He has 47 stolen bases… that’s like adding at least 47 MORE doubles and/or triples (stealing 3rd from 2nd). Shohei has only been caught only 4 times stealing.
I’ll take Shohei stats ALL day EVERY day.
