ML MVP ballot will have two DHs finish in the top five, maybe even in the top three…
It’s ironic that the first DH to win the MVP will be in the NL…
AJ David is a much better player than Ohtani
You guys are so FOS
I thought ORTIZ didn’t get a MVP because he did ROIDS?
Ohtani MVP
Something so flat to just read a bunch of stat numbers..to define importance?
It tells no story, no feel of the times, the excitement and joy of the fans in the moment…
Ohtani is as long as he is standing on that field of dreams, continues to redefine baseball to its traditional norm. Chasing same criteria one by one, year after year in the strict
Specialist categories. kept baseball loosing fans and no new fans found it monotonous.
Hitting one single ball over the fence more than the previous guy, couple more runs more, strike out couple more batters, always SAME PATH to one more or two..
Ohtani brought a new path to accomplish not just an extra ball over fence or extra strike outs..
He showed, Baseball is a complete sport with much strategy, a chess, new ways of utilize different part of physical abilities to conquer the opposition by unexpected offensive or defensive combination. To showcase the Baseballs MANY path to winning a game, contributing to wins.
Ironically, it wasn’t planned. Ohtani got injured. But he created a new strategy out of his handicap and instead of being a liability in a IL year, he became a value to the team to the extent he leads the team stats board in most all offensive categories!!! Not valuable to his team??
Ask Mookie and Miggy Ro to name a few who have explicitly said that without Ohtani this season, with all the injuries, Dodgers wouldn’t be in the league leading position they are.
If ortiz get 50 50 he win for sure
I’m curious how the OPS+ looks like just for the respective league for Ohtani 2024 vs whatever the year of Big papi’s because we are talking about league MVP not MLB MVP. I assume Ohtani’s will go higher than 177 if just looking at NL. 4 out of top 5 OPS right now are all AL players
Give it to the White Sox as a team award
If Big Papi wasn’t able to win it because he didnt play defense then ShoGAMBLER shouldn’t win it. Lindor is MVP.
The biggest difference is the competition. In the NL today the runner-up is looking like Lindor, but the only stat he’s ahead of Ohtani on is doubles. His work on the field with the glove is the only reason it’s even close, but rightfully so you got to give credit where credit is due. Lindor is just having an average Lindor season, and that’s good because he’s a good player, but he’s not really playing out of his mind. Yet, it would be enough for MVP this season if Ohtani didn’t exist.
If Ohtani were still in the AL he might be 4th or 5th in MVP voting. DHs have gotten dinged for only being good hitters, but not good defenders or baserunners. Shohei now has both the hitting and baserunning but still no defense. I think the baserunning (and historical achievement) is enough to put him ahead of Lindor this season. Ortiz had the hitting, but not enough of the other 2 and faced tough competition. I think he was rightfully picked 2nd, 3rd, and 4th twice in the final voting. I’d say the same about Shohei this year if he was facing the AL competition. It just happens to be a year where a lot of the top NL talent missed time with injuries or were playing through injuries and Shohei happens to have a never been done before 50/50 season.
