You really cannot compare alchohol to Cannabis from a medical standpoint. Cannabis has many proven medicinal effects and alchohol does not have any at all, unless of course you count numbness as a medicinal effect. On the contrary, cannabis has many psychological effects, whereas alchohol only has again, numbness. Therefore its more than reasonable to view cannabis a medicin, and alchohol as non medicin, as you yourself make the argument for shortly in this video. I dont like the comparison, when talking about what should be legal, because most cannabis users are usually smoking all day long everyday, whereas most alchohol users only get drunk once in a while.
I dont see the problem of classifying cannabis as medicine, as long as it is not too hard to obtain. This way the plan originally as I recall it, before they legalised it, and is a way more responsible way to handle Cannabis in my opinion. Thailand even has a medical visa, and if people were to need a prescription for it, I doubt that it would be an issue for those who are truly in need. If the rumors are true, and the legalisation has worried Thai family’s out there, why not make it for medicinal purposes? It would be great to get rid of the shameless public smoking, it really is an issue in alot of turist places. I have stopped wuite alot of people and told them not to smoke in public – most dont even know that it is illegal to do so, and others simply dont give a shit – its Thailand, they say. They have an anything goes mentally, lots of those in Thailand isnt there? One russian guy wanted to fight me because I asked him to stop smoking in a street restaurant right outside 7 eleven. There was a family with children sitting right at the next table. Another two guys, again smoking right outside a restaurant, the wind carrying the smoke right into where i was sitting for 10 minutes. Countless fools just blazing up as they are walking down the street, not giving a damn about anyone else. And its not just the smell, which i personally dont mind, its that you actually get affected by the smoke. For the same 2hand reasons we have made smoking cigarettes inside illegal in most of the world. So the effects of the legalisation can be quite overwhelming for society. You shouldn’t have to feel bad about asking someone to stop smoking in public, or even fear the outcome as I have done a few times times, that is ridiculous circumstances really. The lesson here being that the tourists that come simply are not mature enough to handle this legalisation, and that is a problem. But what does it matter when there are no consequences? The police do not have the resources to enforce the law it seems, or they dont prioritize it. They should go on razzia to the places where people are known to smoke publically, and write some fines. But that takes resources, and it doesnt happen, so since they wont do it, there is no incentive to stop for those that cannot respect other people in the public space. Its a bad development if you care about society in general. The Thai’s do not make any objections either when this happens, as they seem happy to be in business, and wont easily get rid of customers who wont abide by the law. Sabai sabai. Maybe it wouldnt be bad to get this a bit under control again. A compromise to make it medical might be the right thing if you ask me.
I realise that your opinions reflect the average man out there, looking to buy recreational every now and then, and I dont have a problem with those either, but I dont think it is as simple as to continue full legalisation.
It is ridiculous that Cannabis has been vilified for years. Big alcohol companies did that to kill any alternative to drinking. Alcohol has destroyed and killed so many people for hundreds of years. Have you ever heard about anyone who died from smoking Cannabis? Other than someone having a heart attack once in a great while.
Where can the draft law be seen?
Dude kratom lmao
There’s always going to be some one ranting say it’s a gateway drug or how evil it is with out any evidence there’s a reason why so many countries have made it for medical and not alcohol
Isn’t recreational use of any substance like this “medicinal” at its core?
Not a criticism.
You should watch some old cowboy era tv shows and later country and hillbilly shows. Often there is a running joke about drinking moonshine for medicinal purposes only. Granny on The Beverly Hillbillies was a great example, IIRC. I think there were also sly references to wacky tabacky and smoking hemp rope the same way. But I was a kid back then, and don’t recall for sure.
Ganjaa grows wild in a lot of places. It used to be both a common medicinal herb and recreational herb until Thailand followed the international lead banning it. Even then, it was not a big deal unless the cops were angry with you, like all the gambling in living rooms and at funerals. Nobody drew, or could have drawn, or wanted to draw,, a line between medicinal versus recreational.
Keep swinging the bat. Mike
As for foreigners being involved, I do wonder how much of the improvement in quality of cannabis produced locally in Thailand was the result of foreigners who have heaps of experience in cultivating it in other countries where legalization has already occurred. I am all for legal weed, and I am all for creating a framework for Thais to predominantly prosper, but, I am also a proponent for high quality cannabis – and much of what has been sold as “top shelf” here doesn’t stand up to comparison to “top shelf” in places like California, Washington, or Colorado
